Our holiday program this year will concentrate on the music of two outstanding 20th-century British composers, both of whom died during the last two years. Sir John Tavener, known for his distinctive, diatonic choral music, completed the cycle Ex Maria Virgine, a 35-minute sequence of familiar and unfamiliar Christmas texts, in 2005. Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, know for his film scores and jazz performances, is represented by a set of five carols written in 1967. The program also includes audience carols, organ solos, and other seasonal favorites.
